Joining Sentences

What are we learning today?

You will join two short sentences with words like when, before, after, so, if and where.

Explanation

• When shows time: When he was a child, he played with his brothers.
• Before means earlier. After means later: She gets up before 7 am. After school, I play.
• So shows a result: She had no wheelchair, so she learned to walk on her hands.
• If shows a condition. Where shows a place.
• Put a comma after the first part when it starts the sentence.

Examples

1. After a few tries, I learned how to do it.
2. If it rains, we stay at home.
3. She went to Athens, where she won two medals.

Remember!

• Use the present simple after if. Do not use will.
• Do not mix up before and after.
