What are we learning today?

You will learn to hear how a speaker feels. You will find the attitude in words and in the voice.

Explanation

• A speaker can be happy, sad, surprised or serious.
• Words show attitude: fantastic, terrible, exciting.
• Tone of voice also shows attitude. It can go up or down.
• Positive reactions: "Well done!", "That's fantastic!", "How amazing!"
• Sympathy: "Oh no!", "What a shame!", "I'm sorry to hear that."

Examples

1. That's a really exciting job. (positive)
2. I'm frightened of snakes. (negative)
3. What a shame! The speaker is sorry.
