Active and Passive Sentences

What are we learning today?

You will learn to use active sentences and the present simple passive.

Explanation

• In an active sentence, we say who does the action. Use present simple for habits and facts. Use past simple for finished events.
• In a passive sentence, the action is important. Use is or are and the past participle.
• Negative passive: is or are + not + past participle.
• Use by if you need to say who does the action.

Examples

1. Mick works on a farm. (active, present)
2. He fell off a horse when he was a boy. (active, past)
3. The coaches are cleaned every day. (passive)

Remember!

• Passive: is or are + past participle.
• People call it food poisoning. It is called food poisoning.
