Checking Words and Meanings

What are we learning today?

You will use books, lists and dictionaries to check what words mean. You will learn new words.

Explanation

• Use a vocabulary list to learn groups of words, for example get better, get sick and get injured.
• Test a friend. Student A reads a definition. Student B says the word.
• Irregular past participles are in the list at the back of the book.
• Use a dictionary or an app. Check the meaning, the part of speech and an example sentence.

Examples

1. Wood that you use to make a fire is firewood.
2. The animals, birds and plants in an area are wildlife.
3. Fall - fallen and cut - cut are irregular verbs.

• Do not guess a meaning. Check it.
• Write an example sentence next to a new word.
