Reading Short Texts Alone

What are we learning today?

You will read a short article or a recipe on your own. You will understand it step by step.

Explanation

• Before you read, look at the title, the photo and any fact box. Guess what the text is about.
• While you read, read once without a dictionary.
• Underline names, numbers and dates.
• In a recipe, underline the order words: first, next, then.
• After you read, check your answers with true or false tasks.

Examples

1. Title: Accident waiting to happen. Guess: it is about a person with many accidents.
2. Mick has broken fifteen different bones.
3. First, wash the potatoes. Next, cut them. Then boil them.

Remember!

• Read the whole text before you answer.
• Do not stop at every new word.
