Linking Sentences

What are we learning today?

You will join your sentences with simple linking words.

Explanation

• Linking words are called connectors.
• To show time order, use First, Then, After that and Finally.
• To show a different idea, use But.
• You can put a comma after First, Then and After that: First, I sat down.
• Check that each sentence follows the one before.

Examples

1. First, I sat down. Then, I opened the book.
2. First, I read a chapter. After that, I told my friend about the story. Finally, I returned the book.
3. It was dark. But I was not afraid.

Remember!

• First starts the story. Finally ends it.
• But shows a different idea.
