What are we learning today?

You will learn how to understand a short conversation when you do not know every word.

Explanation

• Context means who is talking, where they are and why.
• Clue words, the tone of voice and pictures give you the meaning.
• Pictures and signs can inform you, tell you to do something, or entertain you.
• A map informs. An advertisement tells you to buy something. Graffiti entertains.

Examples

1. A child asks, "Can we go to the cinema this evening?" The answer is, "No, sorry. Your uncle and aunt are here." The context: a child asks a parent for permission.
2. You see a red sign that says "Stop!" The place is a road.
