What are we learning today?
You will hear what a speaker thinks from the words and the voice.
Explanation
- Listen for words of reaction, for example "Well done!" and "That's fantastic!". They show a happy opinion.
- "Oh no!", "What a shame!" and "I'm sorry to hear that" show sympathy for bad news.
- Listen for adjectives such as fantastic or terrible.
- Listen to the tone of the voice.
Examples
- Well done! That's fantastic! The speaker is happy for his friend.
- I disagree. That's a really exciting job.
- I think this is the worst day of my life. This is a negative opinion.
Remember!
- Do not mix up sympathy and joy.
