What are we learning today?
You will learn to see what the author thinks about the people in a story. The words the author chooses show it.
Explanation
- The author does not say "Maggie is right". But the words show sympathy for her.
- The word "poor" in "poor Maggie" shows pity.
- The author explains Maggie's real reason: she wanted to get free from annoying hair and annoying comments.
- Tom seems to enjoy the scene. He is shown as unkind.
- The adults use loud, harsh words. So the reader feels they are unfair.
Examples
