Countable and Uncountable Nouns

What are we learning today?

You will use countable and uncountable nouns correctly. You will also talk about parts of food.

Explanation

• You can count some nouns: brothers, bedrooms, seats.
• You cannot count others: work, food, water.
• Uncountable nouns have no plural form. Do not say works.
• Use a piece of or a fraction for a part: a piece of cake, half of the pizza.
• Use lots of with both kinds of nouns.
• Child becomes children. Person becomes people.

Examples

1. He has got fourteen brothers and sisters.
2. There is lots of work to do.
3. Ana eats 1/8 of the cake.

Remember!

• Do not say childs. Say children.
• Use numbers only with countable nouns.
