Present Simple and Past Simple

What are we learning today?

You will talk about your daily routine and about things that happened in the past.

Explanation

• Use the present simple for routines: I get up at 5.30. School starts at 7.30.
• Use the past simple for finished actions: She finished school a year ago.
• Add -ed to most verbs: walk - walked.
• After -e, add -d: live - lived.
• After a consonant and y, change y to -ied: study - studied.
• Some verbs are irregular: go - went.
• For a negative, use didn't and the base verb: didn't clean.

1. My dad starts work at 7.00 every day.
2. The farmer walked across the field.
3. The pilot didn't arrive late.

Remember!

• Past time words, like yesterday and ago, need the past simple.
• Write didn't clean, not didn't cleaned.
• Do not add -s to a past verb.
