To or -ing After Verbs

What are we learning today?

You will learn when to use "to" + verb and when to use the -ing form after main verbs.

Explanation

• After "want", "need", "hope" and "decide", use "to" + verb.
• After "like", "love", "hate", "enjoy" and "don't mind", use the -ing form.
• Use -ing after words like "before" and "after" too.
• Check the spelling: run, running; write, writing; play, playing.

Examples

1. I want to be a pilot.
2. I love watching sport on TV.
3. I don't mind doing my homework.

Remember!

• Say "I want to go", not "I want going".
• Double the last letter in "run": running.
