What are we learning today?

You will learn how to join sentences with simple connecting words.

Explanation

• A paragraph is not a list of separate sentences.
• "And" adds an idea. "But" shows a contrast.
• "Because" gives a reason. "So" gives a result.
• In an essay you can use Firstly, Secondly, However and In conclusion.
• Read your paragraph aloud. If it sounds like a list, add a connector.

Examples

1. I like Maths, but I don't like homework.
2. I can't go to school because it's far away, so I study at home.
3. In conclusion, I'm sure that things will be different.

Remember!

• "Because" gives the reason. "So" gives the result.
• Do not write only short separate sentences.
