Конспект
What are we learning today?
You will learn how to tell a fact from an opinion in a short text.
Explanation
A fact can be checked. It can be a number, a date, a place or an event. An opinion shows what a person thinks or feels. Another person can disagree. A prediction about the future is not a fact yet. Words that often show an opinion: I think, I'm sure, in my opinion. Words that often show a prediction: will, may, might.
Examples
- Fact: The School of the Air started in 1951.
- Opinion: I quite enjoy studying at home.
- Prediction: Students might learn everything from computer programs.
Remember!
- A sentence with "will", "may" or "might" is a prediction, not a fact.
- "I think" and "in my opinion" show an opinion.
