Giving an Opinion with a Reason

What are we learning today?

You will learn to say what you think and to give a reason.

Explanation

• An opinion sentence has two parts: the opinion and the reason.
• Use "because" to give a reason.
• Use "so" to give a result.
• "Like" shows a feeling. "Admire" shows respect.
• Pattern: I think / I'd like / I admire + person or job + because + reason.

Examples

1. I'd like to be an artist because I love drawing and painting.
2. I admire him because he worked hard to achieve his dream.
3. He was born 80 years ago, so he is very old.

Remember!

• Always give a reason after "because".
• "Because" gives a reason. "So" gives a result.
