Reading Short Texts Alone

What are we learning today?

You will learn how to read a short text on your own and understand it.

Explanation

Follow these steps.

• Look at the title and photos. Guess the topic.
• Read once to get the general idea.
• Read the questions.
• Read again and underline the answers.
• Guess unknown words from the context (the words around them).

After reading, tell the text in two or three sentences. This shows that you understood.

Examples

1. A magazine article says that computers become smaller and more powerful.
2. A blog tells about a boy's day at home on a farm.
3. Retell the blog in three sentences.

Remember!

• Do not stop at the first unknown word.
• Use the title and photos.
