Abstract Nouns, Place and Time

What are we learning today?

You will learn to use abstract nouns and short phrases for place and time.

Explanation

• An abstract noun names an idea. You cannot touch it. Examples: power, information, technology, hope.
• Some abstract nouns come from adjectives. Powerful gives power. Hopeful gives hope.
• A phrase of place answers "where?". A phrase of time answers "when?".
• The pattern is: preposition + (the) + noun. Learn these phrases as one piece.

Examples

1. Technology will change many areas of our lives.
2. Place: in the classroom, at school.
3. Time: in the future, at the weekend, next summer.

Remember!

• Say "at the weekend" and "in the future".
• A laptop is a thing. Information is an idea.
