Choosing the Right Verb Form

What are we learning today?

You will choose the present simple, past simple, present perfect or passive form that fits the time.

Explanation

• Present simple is for facts and habits: Mick works on a farm.
• Past simple is for a finished action at a known time. Words like yesterday, last week and ago help you.
• Present perfect is for an action when the time is not important or not given. Words like ever and never help you.
• Passive is is/are + past participle. Use it when the thing is more important than the doer.

Examples

1. My brother finished primary school a few years ago.
2. Have you ever climbed a mountain?
3. Raw chicken is kept in the fridge.

Remember!

• Do not use the present perfect with yesterday.
• Do not forget is or are in the passive.
