Конспект

What are we learning today?

You will learn to find who says what and why. You will use the people in a story about Maggie's hair.

Explanation

  • An argument gives an opinion and a reason.
  • Aunt Pullet says Maggie has too much hair. Her reason is health.
  • Aunt Glegg says little girls who cut their own hair should be whipped. She thinks Maggie's behaviour is terrible.
  • Uncle Glegg makes jokes about Maggie.
  • Mrs Tulliver says Maggie is a naughty child who will break her mother's heart. Her reason is a feeling.
  • Read the question. Scan the text. Then decide.

Examples

  1. Aunt Pullet: "It isn't good for her health."
  2. Mrs Tulliver: "She's a naughty child."

Remember!

  • Ask two things: Who says it? Why do they say it?

Check yourself

  1. Whose reason is health?
  2. Who says Maggie is naughty?
  3. What does Aunt Glegg think about Maggie's behaviour?
