You will learn to find names, years and numbers in a short text. You will also learn to work out some answers.

Explanation

• Scan the text. Look only for the facts you need.
• Mary Ann Evans was born in 1819. This year is in brackets after her name.
• She was close to her older brother Isaac.
• Her father died in 1849, and she moved to London. Count: 1849 - 1819 = 30. She was 30.
• Her first novel came ten years later. Count: 1849 + 10 = 1859.
• She wrote seven novels. She died in 1880.
• Some answers need a short sum.
