What are we learning today?
You will learn to use capital letters and punctuation marks correctly.
Explanation
- Use a capital letter at the start of a sentence and for names and days: Ted, Monday.
- End a sentence with a full stop, a question mark or an exclamation mark.
- Put a comma after a greeting: "Hi Ted,".
- Use an apostrophe in short forms: I'm, can't, I've.
- Use inverted commas for spoken words.
- Read your text aloud. Stop at a full stop and pause at a comma.
Examples
- Hi Ted, I'm sorry I can't come.
- Would you like to come round for lunch on Sunday?
- 'It's a bit of a joke,' she says.
Remember!
- Write "can't", not "cant".
- Write "Monday" with a capital letter.
