What are we learning today?

You will tell fiction from non-fiction. You will read short texts with little help.

Explanation

• Fiction is an invented story with characters, places and feelings.
• Non-fiction gives real facts, like dates, places and numbers.
• A story can be told by a person who says "I".
• Read quickly the first time. Do not stop at every new word.
• Use pictures and notes to understand new words.
• Read paragraph by paragraph. Then read again slowly.

Examples

1. Fiction: My heart jumped as I saw it.
2. Non-fiction: Arthur Conan Doyle was born in 1859 in Edinburgh.
3. A newspaper report is non-fiction.

• Facts and dates are non-fiction.
