Joining Sentence Parts

What are we learning today?

You will join two parts of a sentence with so, if, when, where, before and after.

Explanation

• "So" shows a result: I'm hungry, so I have lunch.
• "If" shows a condition: If you like music, you can join the club.
• "When" shows time: When I'm tired, I listen to music.
• "Before" shows what happens first. "After" shows what happens later.
• "Where" shows a place.
• Use a comma when the sentence starts with after, when or if.

Examples

1. Before I go to bed, I read a book.
2. After I finish school, I go home.
3. This is the school where Anna studies.

Remember!

• Put a comma after the first part: When I'm tired, I rest.
• Use "where" for a place.
