Present, Past and Passive

What are we learning today?

You will learn to use the present simple, the past simple and simple passive sentences.

Explanation

• Use the present simple for habits and facts. Add -s or -es for he, she and it.
• Use the past simple for finished actions. For the verb "be", use was or were.
• Use the passive when the action is more important than the person who did it.
• Present passive: am, is or are + past participle.
• Past passive: was or were + past participle: "She was born in 1991."
• Use "by" to say who did the action.

Examples

1. School starts at 8 am.
2. She was born in Ireland in 1991.
3. The lesson is saved on the website.

Remember!

• Do not forget "be" in the passive: "is saved".
• Use the past participle: "is made", not "is make".
