Present Perfect

What are we learning today?

You will learn when to use the present perfect. You will make sentences and questions with it.

Explanation

• Use the past simple for a finished event at a specific time: "He moved to Hollywood in 2005."
• Use the present perfect when the time is not given or not important.
• Form: have or has + past participle.
• Signal words: ever, never, already, just, so far.
• Do not use it with yesterday, last week or in 2005.
• Past participles: break - broken, fall - fallen, see - seen.
• Short answers: "Yes, I have." or "No, he hasn't."

Examples

1. I have never eaten a snake.
2. Have you ever had an accident? Yes, I have.
3. She has broken her wrist.

Remember!

• Say "I have seen", not "I have saw".
• The past simple tells when. The present perfect does not.
