Finding a Speaker's Opinion

What are we learning today?

You will listen to a simple conversation. You will find what the speakers like or think.

Explanation

An opinion shows what a speaker likes or thinks. Listen for opinion words.

• Positive: I like, I love, It's great, It's so cute.
• Negative: I don't like, It's boring.
• Think: I think ...

Ask four questions. Who speaks? What is the opinion word? Is it positive or negative? Is there a reason with "because"?

Examples

1. The monkeys were so cute! - positive
2. I don't like science museums. They are boring. - negative
3. I love zoos because the animals are interesting. - positive, with a reason

Remember!

• Listen for "don't". "I like" and "I don't like" are different.
• A fact is not an opinion.
• "Because" gives a reason.
