What are we learning today?

You will guess the meaning of a new word from the words around it.

Explanation

Read the whole sentence. The words around a new word give clues.

• "Some blankets in a corner showed me where he slept." A blanket is on a bed. It keeps you warm.
• Pots are things we use to cook food.
• Footsteps are the sounds of someone walking.
• A stranger is someone you do not know.
• An enemy is someone who wants to hurt you.

Use a dictionary if you must.

Examples

1. It was a dark, cold hut. The words dark and cold tell us the feeling.
2. A stranger is someone you do not know.
