Конспект
What are we learning today?
You will learn how to tell a fact from an opinion in a short text.
Explanation
A fact can be checked. It often has numbers, dates or places. An opinion shows what a person thinks or feels. Words like "best", "beautiful", "amazing", "I loved" and "some people say" often show an opinion. Ask: can we measure it or look it up? If yes, it is a fact. If it depends on the person, it is an opinion.
Examples
- "There are fourteen large lakes in the park." This is a fact.
- "I really loved this experience." This is an opinion.
- "Almaty is in Kazakhstan." This is a fact. "Almaty is the best city." This is an opinion.
Remember!
- A fact can be checked.
- "Some people say" does not make a sentence a proven fact.
Check yourself
- Fact or opinion: "It was the best part of my trip."
- Which word often shows an opinion: "amazing" or "1,200"?
