Finding Details in a Text

What are we learning today?

You will learn how to find exact information in a short text. You will answer questions about it.

Explanation

Use scanning.

• Read the question.
• Mark the key words.
• Find the key words in the text.
• Read around them and answer. Use words from the text, but keep your answer short. Do not read the whole text again for each question.

Examples

1. Question: "Why shouldn't you go to Burabai in the winter?" Key words: winter, January. The text says the average temperature in January is -16 C.
2. "What trees grow in the forests?" The text says: pine and birch trees.
3. "How many lakes?" The text says: fourteen large lakes.

Remember!

• Mark the key words in the question first.
• Do not choose an answer only because a word looks the same.
