Joining Sentences

What are we learning today?

You will join short sentences into a paragraph with linking words.

Explanation

Linking words make a text smooth.

• so shows a result
• because shows a reason
• but shows a contrast
• and and also add information
• then shows the next step

Do not start every sentence with "and". Do not put too many linking words in one sentence.

Examples

1. It's got lots of big trees so it's always cool.
2. There are also deer in the wood, but they're shy.
3. First, we make a blanket. Then, we sit by the fire.

Remember!

• Use "so" for a result and "because" for a reason.
• Use "but" for a different idea.
