Present and Past Continuous

What are we learning today?

You will learn how to talk about actions now and actions in the past.

Explanation

• Present continuous: am, is or are + verb with -ing. Use it for now or this year.
• Past continuous: was or were + verb with -ing. Use it for the background in the past.
• Words like "while" and "when" help you to join two past actions.
• Do not use the continuous with like, love, know and want.

Examples

1. My parents are working in Dubai this year.
2. I was skating when my phone rang.
3. While we were walking, it started to rain.

Remember!

• Do not forget the verb "be": say "I am writing", not "I writing".
• Say "I like it", not "I'm liking it".
