Reading a Short Text

What are we learning today?

You will learn to read a short text on your own and find the facts in it.

Explanation

• Step 1: Look at the title and the picture. Guess what the text is about.
• Step 2: Read the whole text. Find the main idea.
• Step 3: Check the details. Find them in the text. Do not use your memory.
• Look for numbers and years. Questions often ask about them.
• A text with facts about a real person is non-fiction.

Examples

1. Mick works on a farm. He is a very unlucky man.
2. In 2010 a machine trapped him and he broke both his legs.
3. He had three operations and spent six months in hospital.

Remember!

• Read the whole text, not only the first paragraph.
• Check numbers carefully.
