Reading Short Texts by Yourself

What are we learning today?

You will read a short text on your own. You will also learn to see what type of text it is.

Explanation

Read in three steps.

1. Look at the title and the pictures. Guess what the text is about.
2. Read for the general idea.
3. Read again for the details.

Every text has a type. A description uses adjectives. A forum post tells a story and gives opinions. A report gives facts and numbers.

Examples

1. "There are also deer in the wood, but they're shy." This sentence is from a description of a place.
2. "It was much better than being in the city." This is an opinion in a forum post.
3. "Some species are in danger." This is a fact in a report.

• Guess first, then read.
• Do not check every word in a dictionary.
