Finding Facts with Numbers

What are we learning today?

You will find exact facts in a short text. You will use numbers and units to answer questions.

Explanation

• First, find the key word in the question.
• Then find that word in the text.
• Read that sentence. The answer is there.
• Look at the number and the unit: km, m or hectares.
• Do not mix similar numbers.

Examples

1. Almaty Nature Reserve is 25 km east of Almaty. The key words are "how far", and the answer is 25 km.
2. The reserve has 137 species of plants, 39 species of animals and 200 species of birds.
3. Mount Talgar is 4,973 m high. The dunes are 150 m high.

Remember!

• Find the key word first, then read that sentence.
• Write the number with its unit.
• 137 and 39 are different numbers. Check them carefully.
