What are we learning today?

You will learn to find how the writer feels about a topic.

Explanation

• The author's attitude is how the writer feels.
• It often shows in the words the author chooses.
• Look at the adjectives. Words like unlucky, beautiful and dangerous show a view.
• Look at the quotes. They are the words of other people.
• Look at the end of the text. Does it praise, criticise or worry?

Examples

1. "Mick Wilary is a very unlucky man." The word "unlucky" shows the author's view.
2. "These beautiful animals" shows respect for tigers.
3. "Terrible" is a negative word. "Fantastic" is a positive word.

Remember!

• A fact, like a number, is not an opinion.
• Do not mix up the author's view with a quoted person's view.
