Writing About the Past

What are we learning today?

You will write about a trip or a stay in the past. You will use the past simple.

Explanation

Use the past simple for finished events. Add a time word, for example "last summer". Add your feeling, for example "It was fantastic." Some verbs are regular: stay - stayed. Some verbs are irregular: sleep - slept, see - saw, swim - swam, do - did. Use words like first, then, at night and finally.

Examples

1. Last summer we stayed in a tent.
2. We swam in the lake and saw a deer.
3. At night we slept under the stars. It was fantastic!

Remember!

• Use the past simple for last summer, last year and yesterday.
• Do not say "sleeped". Say "slept".
• Do not mix present and past.
