You will learn what to say when someone gives you a surprising answer. You will keep the talk going.

Explanation

• Sometimes a person says something you did not expect.
• Answer with a full sentence.
• Do not stop after "No".
• Ask "Why not?" to find out the reason.
• Or ask for another plan with "Can I ... instead?".

Examples

1. Can I go swimming on Sunday afternoon? - I'm afraid not. - Can I go in the morning, then?
2. Can I wear my new trainers to school? - Yes, you can. - Great, thanks!
3. Can we go to the cinema? - No, sorry. - Why not?

Remember!

• Say "Yes, you can" when someone asks "Can I ...?".
• A polite "no" is "Sorry, I'm afraid you can't."
• Say "please" and "thanks".
