Irregular Past Verbs

What are we learning today?

You will learn to tell about a finished event with irregular verbs.

Explanation

• Use the past simple for something that is finished.
• Irregular verbs have special past forms.
• go - went, have - had, see - saw, know - knew
• do - did, take - took, get - got, make - made
• In a negative sentence, use didn't and the base verb.
• Time words help: yesterday, last year, two weeks ago.
• For plans, use going to: I'm going to visit Rome next year.

Examples

1. I went to the museum yesterday.
2. My dad made a big poster.
3. They didn't have a very good holiday.

Remember!

• Do not say "goed". Say "went".
• After didn't, use the base verb: I didn't see it.
