Comparing Adjectives

What are we learning today?

You will learn to compare things with adjectives.

Explanation

• Short adjectives: add -er and -est. Fast - faster - the fastest.
• One vowel and one consonant: double the consonant. Big - bigger - the biggest.
• Adjectives ending in -y: use -ier and -iest. Easy - easier - the easiest.
• Long adjectives: use more and the most. Expensive - more expensive - the most expensive.
• Irregular: good - better - the best.
• Use "than" after a comparative. Use "the" before a superlative.

Examples

1. A helicopter is faster than a bus.
2. The fastest way to travel is by air.
3. A coach is cheaper than the train.

Remember!

• Say "faster", not "more fast".
• Do not say "the most cheapest".
