What are we learning today?

You will learn to tell a fact from an opinion in short texts.

Explanation

• A fact can be checked and proved.
• An opinion shows what a person thinks or feels.
• Opinion words are think, believe, favourite, best, terrible, great, beautiful and dangerous.
• Ask yourself: can I prove it with a number, a map or a book?
• If you can prove it, it is a fact.

Examples

1. Frogs live on every continent except Antarctica. This is a fact.
2. Huskies can travel over 150 km in one day. This is a fact.
3. I think elephants are the best animals. This is an opinion.

Remember!

• Words like "dangerous" and "terrible" show an opinion.
• "I think" shows an opinion, not proved information.
