Finding the Main Point

What are we learning today?

You will find the main point of a short text.

Explanation

The main point answers one question: "What is the text about?" Look at the title, the pictures and the first sentence of each paragraph. You do not need to know every word. Read for the general meaning first. Do not choose a small detail as the main point. Read more than one paragraph.

Examples

1. The title is "Fun in Almaty". The main point is: there are many fun things to do in Almaty.
2. A text says huskies pull sledges and help the Inuit. The main point is: huskies are strong workers and help people.
3. A quiz gives five facts about animals. The main point is: animals and interesting facts about them.

Remember!

• Find the main point first, then look at the details.
• Do not stop at every new word.
