Linking Words

What are we learning today?

You will use the words and, but and because to join sentences.

Explanation

• Use and to put two ideas together.
• Use but when the second idea is different.
• Use because to give a reason.
• In a longer sentence, put a comma before but.

Examples

1. I get up and I have a shower.
2. Mum has lunch at home with my dad, but I'm at school.
3. Our favourite day is Sunday because no one works.

Remember!

• and = together
• but = different
• because = reason
