Present and Past Simple

What are we learning today?

You will learn to talk about facts and habits now. You will also talk about the past with was and were.

Explanation

• Use the present simple for facts, habits and routines.
• With he, she and it, add -s to the verb: She plays.
• For a negative, use don't or doesn't and the base verb.
• For a question, use Do or Does: Do tigers swim?
• Use was or were for the past: I was at the zoo. There were three giraffes.
• Negatives: wasn't and weren't.
• Signal words: often and every day for now, yesterday for the past.

Examples

1. She plays with the dogs.
2. The snake wasn't awake.
3. Yesterday I was at home. Every day I go to school.

Remember!

• Do not write "She play" or "Does she plays".
• Use were with plural nouns: three giraffes were.
