Comparing Things

What are we learning today?

You will compare things with comparatives and superlatives.

Explanation

Use a comparative + "than" for two things. Use "the" + superlative for the extreme in a group.

• Short adjectives: soft - softer - the softest.
• Long adjectives: comfortable - more comfortable - the most comfortable.
• Irregular: good - better - the best; bad - worse - the worst.
• Spelling: large - larger, hot - hotter, noisy - noisier.

Examples

1. London is smaller than New York.
2. This is the most beautiful fish in the world.
3. These are the coldest months of the year.

Remember!

• Do not say "more taller". Say "taller".
• Do not say "the most bad". Say "the worst".
• Do not forget "the" before a superlative.
