Giving Arguments with Examples

What are we learning today?

You will give your opinion with a reason and an example.

Explanation

• A good argument has three parts: claim, reason and example.
• The claim is your opinion.
• The reason answers "Why?" Use because.
• The example makes your idea stronger. Use for example.
• Other useful phrases: so, for instance, that's why, in my opinion.

Examples

1. I'd like to sit under the roof because it is dry and comfortable.
2. It is quiet on a small island. For example, there is no heavy traffic.
3. I prefer a modern theatre because the seats are comfortable.

Remember!

• Do not give a claim without a reason.
• Do not give a reason without an example.
• "I like it" is not a strong argument.
