Prepositions of time and place

What are we learning today?

You will learn to use small words for time, place and direction. These words are in, on, at, to and by.

Explanation

• Place: use in for a city or a room, at for a point, and on for a surface.
• Other place words: near, next to and behind.
• Time: use in for a part of the day, a month or a year. Use on for a day or a date. Use at for clock time.
• Direction: use to, from, into and across.
• Use with for a person. Use by for transport.

Examples

1. We watched the show in the evening.
2. Would you like to go to my house after school?
3. I go to the library on Monday with my friend.

Remember!

• Say "on Monday", not "in Monday".
• Say "in the evening", not "at the evening".
