Linking Words

What are we learning today?

You will join sentences with and, also, but and because.

Explanation

Linking words make a paragraph sound natural.

• "And" joins similar ideas.
• "Also" adds more information. It goes after "they": They also have big teeth.
• "But" shows a contrast.
• "Because" gives a reason.

Examples

1. They have small eyes, small ears and short legs.
2. They also have very big teeth!
3. Hippos sleep in water during the day because the water is cool.
4. Mum has lunch at home, but I'm at school.

Remember!

• Use "but" only when there is a contrast.
• Do not start every sentence with "And".
