Connecting Sentences

What are we learning today?

You will join sentences into a good paragraph with linking words.

Explanation

• Start with an opening, for example: Thanks for the email.
• Use phrases to introduce each idea: My news is that, The idea is that, My problem is, The truth is, The fact is.
• Use linkers: and, but, so, because, then.
• Put the news first. Then write the problem and your feeling.
• At the end, ask for advice.

Examples

1. My news is that I'm going to stay with my cousins this summer.
2. The truth is I'm really worried about flying.
3. It was embarrassing, but I had to tell my mum.

Remember!

• Do not forget "that" after "my news is".
• Use "but" to show contrast.
