Explanation

• Linking words connect your ideas.
• Use "and", "also" and "too" to add an idea.
• Use "but" to show a difference.
• Use "because" to give a reason.
• Use "then", "after" and "before" to show time.
• Use "or" to show a choice.
• A paragraph has a first sentence, two or three joined sentences and a last sentence.

Examples

1. Outside it was hot, but inside it was cold.
2. I wore a sweater because it was cold.
3. We played games and then we sang songs.

Remember!

• Use "but" for a difference and "because" for a reason.
• Do not use too many "and" words.
