What are we learning today?
You will learn how to describe a place and a time with longer noun phrases.
Explanation
- A noun phrase is a noun with other words. It can be noun + noun, or adjective + noun.
- Place phrases: the community centre, a shopping centre, the theme park.
- Time phrases: on Saturday mornings, in the evening, until 1998.
- Put the opinion word first, then the size word: a beautiful big tower.
- Compound nouns stay together: theme park, ice rink.
- Some nouns are ideas, not things: help, life, friendship.
Examples
- a quiet little bookshop near the old cathedral
- We open the centre on Saturday mornings from 10.00 to 11.30.
- It was called Akmola until 1998.
Remember!
- Use the right order: opinion, then size.
- Do not forget the small word before a time, like "on" or "in".
Check yourself
- Make a noun phrase from "park" and "theme".
- Which phrase gives time: "from 10.00 to 11.30" or "the ice rink"?
